We have all seen video footage released to the new channels which is blurred, grainy and virtually useless for identification.

Invariably, this is because the system has not been maintained, or because the video tapes have been used far more times than the twelve passes recommended by the Home Office.

The Data Protection Act makes it even more important to service CCTV systems, as the Registrar's guidelines require that cameras should be maintained regularly, in order to preserve the quality of the recorded information, or "data".

• Basic - regular preventative maintenance inspections covered. Other ad-hoc work is chargeable.
• Standard - Regular inspections, plus ad-hoc call-outs covered. Parts are chargeable.
• Comprehensive - All labour covered, plus parts, subject to certain exceptions.
